Modular game boards – One system for (almost) all tabletops
Share
Whether you're playing Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team, OnePageRules, Infinity, Star Wars Legion, or Marvel Crisis Protocol, the board sizes can vary dramatically. Instead of building a separate board for each game, you can cover almost all relevant systems with a simple modular system – without any compromises.
The standard module
The basis is a uniform standard module with the dimensions:
-
56 x 76 cm ( 22” x 30” )
This size corresponds exactly to the official playing field size for Kill Team or Warcry and is therefore perfect as a modular base unit.
The modules are large enough for terrain, easy to store and can be combined as desired.
The supplementary module
For playing fields that are slightly squarer or smaller , we use an additional module with the dimensions:
-
56 x 46 cm ( 22” x 18” )
This also makes it possible to represent games such as Marvel Crisis Protocol , X-Wing or OPR Skirmish – without having to resort to half modules or complicated special dimensions.
Alternative modules
If you prefer something a little more detailed and want to add more variety, you can also consider the Modular Gaming Boards from Miniaturicum. The board consists of four individual parts (15" x 11") and can therefore also replace the expansion module.
The system is so flexible
With only up to 6 standard modules and 1 additional module, you can cover almost all common tabletop systems:
Game system |
Playing field size (cm) |
Module structure |
---|---|---|
Warcry / Kill Team |
56 x 76 cm (22” x 30”) |
1 standard module |
Combat Patrol |
112 x 76 cm (44” x 30”) |
2 standard modules next to each other |
40k / AoS / OPR |
112 x 152 cm (44” x 60”) |
4 standard modules (2x2) |
Onslaught / Big Games |
112 x 228 cm (44” x 90”) |
6 standard modules (3x2) |
Infinity |
120 x 120 cm (48” x 48”) |
3x3 standard modules (168 x 228 cm, can be cut to size) |
Lord of the Rings / MESBG |
120 x 120 cm (48” x 48”) |
3x3 standard modules |
Star Wars Legion |
183 x 122 cm (72” x 48”) |
6 standard modules (3x2 horizontal) |
X-Wing / MCP |
91 x 91 cm (36” x 36”) |
1 standard module + 1 supplementary module |
OPR Skirmish |
76 x 76 cm (30” x 30”) |
1 standard module + 1 supplementary module |
Why this works
-
You only need to build or store a measure
-
No half panels, no complicated cutting
-
Expandable : Today Kill Team, tomorrow Onslaught – no problem
-
Stackable & transportable thanks to uniform modules
Design as desired
How you design your game board—painted, textured, covered with terrain, or flat for modular elements—is up to you. You can find plenty of instructions on YouTube and other platforms, including TWS (German), 3D Games , and many others.
Conclusion
With 4-6 standard modules and 1 additional module, you are perfectly equipped – no matter which system you play.
You no longer have to worry about special sizes or new plates.
One system – many possibilities. Simple, robust, modular.
